Jazz Band

 

Purpose:  Jazz Band is intended to develop students beyond the concert band setting.  Many students perform on a secondary instrument or increase their understanding of playing.  Different elements of jazz will be utilized, such as a rhythm section, improvisation, and standard big band music.

When:  Rehearsals for Jazz Ensemble are Mon./Thurs.  Rehearsals for Jazz Express are Tues./Wed.  Both rehearsals will run from 2:30-4:00.

Expectations:  Jazz Band is extra-curricular.  All students that commit to being in the groups will need to be at rehearsals consistently.  Any excused absence must be communicated at least the day before the rehearsal (except for illness and emergency).  More than 2 unexcused absences may result in dismissal from the group.  Please commit to the group.  You have a schedule now for the year.

Audition:  Each person will play a short audition.  All students interested in playing in the band will be allowed to play.  Auditions are simply to get the right group of people together and to allow the directors to see where you are at in jazz playing.
