Marching Band

     Being a member of the Marching Arabians is an exciting opportunity as well as a privilege. The honors, accolades and respect that the marching band has received across the country are a testament to all of the hard work and commitment that Pendleton Heights students have demonstrated throughout years. Marching band is about working together to achieve a high level of excellence.

     The Marching Arabians is comprised of over 100 students and performs competitively across the state of Indiana. They also perform at football games, music festivals, parades, ceremonies, and community events. They also participate in Indiana State School Music Association (ISSMA) competitions, held at various high schools across Indiana, starting in September and running through October. Students start preparing for these competitions in the summer by learning the new season’s show. Students are required to memorize the music along with drill designs.

Concert Band

Wind Ensemble:

     This is the top performing concert band at PHHS. It is an auditioned group based on playing level and instrumentation. There are no pre-requisites to be in this band (marching band, etc.). Students in this group will perform challenging literature in a number of performances. Performances include, but are not limited to: Fall, Christmas, and Spring concerts, ISSMA contest, IMEA Festival, Music Theatre, elementary/middle school tour, and other community events. Auditions take place early in the spring semester for any student wishing to be in the group.

Symphonic Band:

     This is the second of the concert bands at PHHS. This is a non-auditioned group for all interested in playing in band. There are no pre-requisites to be in this band (marching band, etc.). Students in this group will be challenged through interesting literature and number of performances. Performances include, but are not limited to: Fall, Christmas, and spring concerts, ISSMA contest, IMEA Festival, Music Theatre, and other community events. Symphonic Band percussionist are in a separate class, but still perform with the Symphonic Band.

Jazz Band

     Jazz Bands are auditioned groups. Students who audition for Jazz Ensemble will work after school in the fall and be in a class for second semester only. Jazz Express students will receive credit, but do not sign up for the class in the spring. Auditions take place with the concert band auditions. Jazz Bands performances will include, but not be limited to: Festival of the Trees, Jazz Festivals, Jazz Café, Music Theatre, and other community events.
