About Pendleton Heights Jazz Fest

The Pendleton Heights Jazz Festival came from the idea of the now defunct Anderson City Jazz Festival.  The festival was created to showcase the talent of local schools.  Originally titled “Madison County Jazz Festival,” it began in 2006 with 8 local bands.  Through a name change and lots of additions, the festival now showcases bands from across the state.

Students are able to prepare music and perform it for a panel of clinicians.  Following the performance, each band receives a clinic with one of the clinicians.  The clinicians work with the band on performing, practicing, soloing, and other areas of expertise.  Each group receives a recording of their performance.  Awards are given for outstanding performers for both middle and high school levels.  Written and recorded comments are avaiable for each band as well.

During the day, students may attend clinics for each instrument and improvisation.  There is also a general clinic for everybody given by our guest artist.

The evening concert features our sponsor, the University of Indianapolis Jazz Ensemble, an honor band of local high school students, and a guest artist with the Directors’ Jazz Orchestra.
